Life-changing device for a vehicle…

The market is filled with car stereos. The world doesn’t need another one. So how can you pick the right head unit to transform your car?

This is why I’ve created the Pioneer MVH-2400NEX review. Maybe this is the double din car stereo you have been searching for.

A good buddy of mine lives in his car. No, not the way you think. He has to travel a lot and got his company car. Since he’s spending so much time there, he needed to make it both safe and entertaining.

He’s a real road warrior. First of all, he wanted safety. This meant that hands-free control was a must. While he was at it, he wanted some audio because those long miles fly faster with music.

There were limitations on what he could and couldn’t do. As stated above, it’s a company car, so no irreversible changes were allowed. This is why he opted for the Pioneer MVH-2400NEX car stereo. He can switch it back with the stock once he returns the car.

Now here’s a quick preview of this head unit. No CDs or DVDs with this stereo. This miss is compensated by multiple sources of music. It comes with a 16-band EQ. The biggest selling point was the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Also, we shouldn’t forget that it’s SiriusXM ready.

Let’s get this Pioneer MVH-2400NEX review started.

Here’s the bird’s eye view for this head unit.

Pros
  • Large responsive 7” display
  • The sound got drastically better after install
  • It’s a fast flip out unit
Cons
  • The menu has a complicated submenu system
  • It has tiny buttons

Who is the Pioneer MVH-2400NEX for?

The Pioneer MVH-2400NEX double DIN car stereo is for people who drive a lot in their cars. Just like my friend Tom who I’ve mentioned in the beginning.

He was interested in three things. A car stereo for him should fulfill safety, entertainment, and no irreversible changes.

With hands-free control, you will be able to drive safely. Both Siri and Google Assistant will be able to send text messages so you can keep your eyes on the road.

If you love music and like to tweak it until it is perfect, this head unit comes with a 16-band graphical EQ (has auto EQ). You can spend hours on end optimizing. I know I did.

Last but not least, the changes aren’t permanent. You can switch it back to stock. This is important is you have a company car.

What can the Pioneer MVH-2400NEX do for you?

Let’s talk about the music first. You have standard AM/FM radio. Sorry HD radio is not offered with this car stereo. Pandora, Spotify and AppRadio mode work to entertain you. This is already a big selection, but wait, there’s more.

It comes with SiriusXM ready. You can listen to your favorite shows wherever you are. All you need is to add your account, and you’re done.

As there’s no CD/DVD, you will have to use a flash drive. You can pack a lot of music files on a good pen drive.

The head unit comes with a video input (camera input). You can mount a backup camera . I had my doubts. But it sure beats driving around the block, finding a sufficiently wide parking space. With this tech installed, I can park in tighter spaces.

We shouldn’t forget that both Apple Carplay and Android Auto is supported. Do remember that they need to be plugged in. The built-in Bluetooth helps you make hands-free calls. Also, you can send text messages by dictating.

Pioneer MVH-2400NEX shortcomings

Now the Pioneer MVH-2400NEX is not the perfect stereo. It has smaller and bigger flaws. Let’s see how much of a deal-breakers are for you.

As I mentioned, it doesn’t have a CD/DVD player. So if you have music on those, it’s time to transfer them to an iPod or a memory stick. By eliminating this function, the head unit became lighter and easier to install.

For some reason, Pioneer loves to use small buttons. I shouldn’t list this in the flaws categories. It should be entered into the features. Most recent head units have this same problem/feature.

The manual is light. If you want to do a DIY install, I feel for you. You have better luck hitting YouTube for a qualified guide.

They have included a remote. It’s useless. I haven’t used it since I have the car.

All car stereos that cater to Android and Apple have two USB ports (rear USB). To get USB input you need to run some wires from the back to the front (input rear).

Let’s talk about navigation a bit. It’s clear that some kind of gearhead designed the menu system. It’s so complicated. The menu has many submenus. Now you need to keep everything in mind and try not to crash the car at the same time.

Here’s my last annoyance with this car stereo. It has a function built in to dim the screen when you turn the lights on. Ok, but what about driving with headlights during the day?

Imagine my surprise when I see the head unit completely dimmed while the sun is out. Of course, you can adjust it, but wait, you’re locked out until you don’t hack the system. I will tell you more about the hack in the next chapter.

How To Get The Most Out Of Pioneer MVH-2400NEX?

I’ve mentioned this above that the CD/DVD unit has been removed, making the install easier. Still, it takes a lot of time to get everything right. I always suggest a professional install.

After you get that done, you might want to consider adding two more devices. The first one would be the iDatalink Maestro. This will help you keep your stock steering wheel controls. Also, by having the steering wheel controls, you don’t have to fiddle with the small buttons.

The next device isn’t necessary, but it’s a great hack. It is en e-brake bypass. If you want to dim the car stereo, usually you have to pull over. If you install the bypass, you can do it on the go.

My final advice is to utilize the personalization settings as much as you can. The more it looks like the interior, the more professional it appears.

The Pioneer MVH-2400NEX has a great Equalizer. If you don’t want to spend hours on tinkering, pick one of the presets.

Pioneer MVH-2400NEX Review Conclusion

All in all, it’s a good car stereo to have. If you value safety and entertainment, the Pioneer MVH-2400NEX might be a good fit.
