This car stereo is a gem. I mean, the market is flooded with both cheap and expensive products. This head unit stands out.

That’s the reason why I’ve created the Pioneer AVH-2400NEX Review. There have been many improvements from previous models. I love that they listen to customer feedback and modify things for the better.

One of the biggest issues with Pioneer units was the screen glare. Now it has been fixed. You can tilt the screen, so you are not bothered by the glare.

Here’s the preview for the Pioneer AVH-2400NEX head unit as you’ve probably seen, the screen got bigger. This newest mode’s screen size is 7” touch screen. They have improved on the built-in Bluetooth connection. It’s much faster.

The major selling point is the compatibility with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Do remember that Android Auto only works when you plug it in. This stereo unit has many pretty features like HD radio, SiriusXM ready option plus a DVD player.

Who is the Pioneer AVH-2400NEX for?

This car stereo is one of the best-priced units when it comes to Android Auto. People who are buying it get it for this feature.

Besides Android Auto, you can connect iPhones as well. Apple Carplay is ready for your commands.

The Pioneer AVH-2400NEX head unit brings a huge selection of music sources. If you like standard stuff, then there’s the AM/FM radio plus a CD/DVD receiver. This car stereo has two USB ports. You can plug a pen drive or an iPod. We shouldn’t forget about all the nifty apps either: Pandora and Spotify.

If you fancy better quality, this double din HU comes with SiriusXM ready and HD radio.

No matter what kind of music preferences you have, they are covered.

If you are interested in great hands-free controls and great music, this is the head unit worth considering.

What can the Pioneer AVH-2400NEX do for you?

As I mentioned before, there are two USB ports. One is dedicated to Apple phones and the other one for Android. You will need two USB cables if you have both of them. Make sure they are quality cables, or you will have difficulties.

Android Auto only works if the phone is plugged in. Yes, this is because Google is extremely slow with updated. Don’t get me wrong there are a few car stereos that have wireless Android Auto. There are a few issues with them. First of all, they cost a lot. Secondly, it only works with a few select phones.

The Pioneer AVH-2400NEX head unit comes with a video input. You can mount a backup camera for safer and faster parking. I highly recommend it for vans and trucks.

It has a built-in Bluetooth connection so you can drive safely. If you have teenagers driving, it’s an absolute must to get a hands-free radio receiver. We all know how kids are. They are glued to their phones, even when driving.

By having Siri Eyes Free or Google assistants make or take calls, they can focus on the road. Best of all, text messages can read and reply to without touching the phone.

Pioneer AVH-2400NEX shortcomings

The Pioneer AVH-2400NEX has flaws. I feel it’s my civic duty to include it in my reviews. The earlier you know, the better decision you can make.

For some reason, SiriusXM takes its sweet time to load. I’ve checked, and I had the latest firmware version. Only a handful of people reported this bug.

I’ve watched a few DVD movies. Something was missing. Finally, I’ve figured out the problem. This screen can’t give that sharp colors what and HDTV can. It’s not usually a deal-breaker. If you want to watch HD, then there is the cinema.

I miss the HDMI option. With that, you can connect multiple screens. It’s good for the kids on a long drive.

This isn’t exactly a problem but a bad design. There are no dedicated buttons for this car stereo. For example, if I want to hit next or previous, I need to press too many buttons. The same goes for the rewind. There must be smarter solutions for this issue.

Last but not least, the cooling fan is a bit noisy. It’s inaudible while driving. That’s the good part. I know an easy fix for this. All you need is to turn the volume up.

How To Get The Most Out Of Pioneer AVH-2400NEX?

My fans are probably guessing what’s coming next. To get a fully functioning Pioneer, AVH-2400NEX head unit gets a pro install. I prefer it that way because it saves me a lot of time and stress.

Once that’s done, do update the firmware. Here are a couple of things you should consider. For easy install consider investing in a wiring harness.

To have the best experience possible, you will need two additional items. One is the iDatalink Maestro. This nifty little gadget will help you keep your stock steering wheel controls as I mentioned in the shortcomings chapter, you need to press a lot of buttons to get certain functions done. The iDatalink Maestro does not come with the package it’s sold separately.

By installing this unit, you can skip or rewind a song with one button press. You can get vehicle diagnostic info on your head unit. I always check the tire pressure and voltage before I hit the road.

The mic is clear people who I talk to can hear me loud and clear.

You can’t watch movies while driving. Ok, fair enough, that’s what the law says. But Pioneer went overboard. You can’t make certain setting changes like EQ if you are driving. This is too much. There’s a fix for it. All you need is an e-brake bypass. Don’t forget to drive responsibly because movies are distracting.

Once you get the bypass you can play with the 13-band graphic equalizer. Or you can choose one of the 7 presets.

Last but not least, do install a backup camera because parking will get a lot easier. This is not included in the package and it’s sold separately.
