#1 Rockford Fosgate P400X4 Punch – The Best Amp for 6×9 Speakers Overall

The-Best-Amp-for-6x9-SpeakersWe have a WINNER!

It’s a beast of an amplifier, and it will put your speakers on notice. With this unit, you’re getting everything you wanted to build the perfect system. After installing, you’re getting a high SQ and crisp sound which remains so no matter what kind of music you listen to.

This amp is small, even if it’s a 4 channel Class A/B amplifier. It’s the perfect hideaway unit if you want to keep the factory look. Here’s what you need to know about this amp.

Power Specs:

  • 50 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohm
  • 100 Watts x 4 @ 2-Ohm
  • 200 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohm Bridged

The installation is a breeze, plus you can tune it yourself because it’s super easy; you don’t have to spend money on a technician or fancy equipment.

Best of all, it’s underrated, which means you will be getting more power than advertised.

This is why it’s top of my list:

  • It’s a Tiny Tank: For being a Class A/B amplifier, it’s sure small. Yet it’s powerful. It’s almost like a gremlin, small and cute, but it has a beast inside
  • Potential Arrest Warrant: If the speakers would bleed, then you would be charged for assault with battery. This amplifier is that strong
  • It’s the Missing Link: No matter what type of music you’re into, it will be clean and crisp. All the notes will be there, and it pushes the speakers to their absolute best

A few drawbacks to consider:

The good news is that this amplifier has a bass boost. The bad news is that you won’t really use it because it’s not accessible. Typically since it’s a heavy unit, you will put it under the seat so you won’t reach it while driving.

Again the good news is that there’s an EQ; the bad news is that it’s hard to configure. Plus, the instructions won’t help you either.

Yes, these are all valid drawbacks, and if you zoom in and see what you’re getting as an extra, it’s all worth it. The sheer performance that this amp can force out of the speakers is insane.

This is the ideal amplifier to power 6×9 speakers; sadly, other people know this as well, and they are buying them like crazy. You need to move fast if you want one anytime soon because once they are gone, it takes weeks for the next shipment.

If you want something cheaper, then check out #2 on my list.

Pros
  • Underrated, you’re getting a lot more power for the price
  • It puts the speakers on notice and cranks every performance out of them
  • Every music genre will sound amazing
Cons
  • Getting access to the bass boost is difficult
  • EQ instructions are weak

#2 MTX Audio THUNDER75.4 – Best Value Amp for 6×9 Speakers

Best-Value-Amp-for-6x9-SpeakersThis amplifier is the perfect choice if you want to get those perfect sounding highs and mids for your 6×9 speakers.

Once this baby is up and running in your ride, it will sound like a concert on wheels. It might not be a bad idea to charge people to sit in.

This MTX Audio amp has 4 channels, and it’s Class A/B. As you know, Class A/B gives the perfect sound possible. Here’s what else you need to know.

Power Specs:

  • 75W x 4 Channels at 4 Ohms
  • 100W x 4 Channels at 2 Ohms
  • 175W x 2 Channels Bridged 4 Ohms

You can tweak this amp to your liking because it has different settings for front and rear outputs. With this solid amp, you’re getting a lot of power, and it will push your 6×9 speakers to the max. Best of all, you don’t need anything special for the installation because it uses screw compression connectors. This simple tech makes the installation effortless and fast.

Here’s why it’s a must-buy:

  • Quality on a Budget: This amp was made for 6×9 speakers; the mids and highs were never so clear and breathtakingly beautiful
  • Loud and Clean: Just the way I like it. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t go over 30% volume because it was too much for me. Since it’s class A/B, there are no distortions whatsoever
  • Ultimate Bragging Rights: People will be so impressed with your ride that they will shower you with compliments

Here are a few drawbacks:

Since it’s a class A/B, it might get hot. If you live in hotter areas, make sure there’s more than enough breathing room and, if needed, install a few cooling fans.

It has nice blue LED lighting, which is great during the day, but it might bother you at night. If you can install it, I highly advise you to do it under the seat.

MTX knows how to make great amps for those who don’t want a second mortgage. Yes, it has a few flaws, and you will get past them as soon as you listen to your new system. It will blow you away.

This amplifier has so much value, and the investment is so little that people are buying hotcakes. So no wonder it’s hard to find it in stock. The last time I’ve checked, there were still a few units left. You need to move fast and grab one before it’s too late.

Pros
  • An affordable, powerful Thumper system
  • Great for bragging rights
  • The perfect amp if you value distortion, static, hiss free music
Cons
  • It’s a Class A/B amp, so you will need cooling fans in hot areas
  • The blue LED light might be distracting for some

#3 Alpine MRV-F300 – Best Affordable Amp for 6×9 Speakers

Best-Affordable-Amp-for-6x9-SpeakersWhat you’re getting with this amp is quality, quality, and even more quality. It’s the best solution to deliver those highs and mids for 6×9 speakers. Plus, it won’t bleed your wallet dry either.

This is a four-channel class D amp. It’s so tiny that it will perfectly fit under the seat. Yet, it holds back a lot of power. As soon as you install it, make sure the volume is down, or you get shocked at how loud it will get. Here’s what you need to know about this amplifier.

Power Specs:

  • 75 Watts RMS X 4 at 2 Ohms
  • 50 Watts RMS X 4 at 4 Ohms

This amp is more for SQ than SPL. It simply rocks. Even if it’s a Class D amp, there’s no humming or hissing. The output delivers only crisp, clean sound.

It’s a very powerful amp which won’t disappoint you. Best of all, it’s half the price of a JL audio amp.

Here’s why it’s a must-buy:

  • Handles Like a Champ: The power is clean, which means you’ll be getting great SQ and clean sound. Best of all, there are no distortions, and there’s no clipping
  • Just What the System Needed: If you have an old system, then this amp can breathe new life into it
  • Built to Last: One of my earliest installs has been running hard on a daily basis for more than 4 years. It’s still is a champ delivering that blow

Here are a few drawbacks:

It feels that Alpine has cut some corners in the design process. Don’t get me wrong, it delivers everything and then some, yet the mounting tabs are made out of plastic. Hopefully, they last for a long time.

Here’s a tip Alpine, get rid of screw terminals and use fork ones instead; it will make the installation easier and faster.

As you have seen, there are a few flaws with this Alpine amp, and it’s nothing compared to the high quality and great power it delivers. You can’t go wrong with Alpine.

If you’re looking for a great amp on a budget, this will do the job perfectly. Sadly many people are thinking the same way, so there’s a stock shortage. This means that you have to move fast if you want it. Now there were still units left the last time I’ve checked. If you hurry, you might just get one before they run out.

Pros
  • Like a champ in its prime, no distortions or clipping
  • The perfect amp for the mids and highs
  • Exactly what your system needs for clean, crisp music
Cons
  • The mounting tabs are plastic
  • Fork terminals would’ve been a better option

Conclusions on the Best Amplifier for 6×9 Speakers Awards

We have reached the end of this award ceremony. I hope you had a blast reading it while I had a blast testing them. It was so much fun playing around with these amplifiers. Also I hope that you have already found the one you’ve been looking for.

If so then you have to step on it because the stocks are record low and you might even miss out. The amount of stuff people are buying is ludicrous. Now if you move fast and buy the perfect amp then you don’t have to wait weeks on end for the next shipment.
