This was the experience that a friend of mine had. Did he change his whole stereo system? No. Only the car stereo was upgraded.

The results spoke for themselves. The music was cleaner and louder. All this was achieved without buying a new amp or changing the speakers.

It has everything that you need at a great price. Actually, it’s the sweet spot between price and features. The only missing feature that I’ve found was a built-in GPS. In the era of smartphones who needs them?

The Pioneer AVH-2440NEX radio tuner sends more power to the speakers, so they sound better. No wonder they sounded better after the install. The sound quality is simply out of this world. In case you have a dead or dying car stereo think about your options. The dealerships usually charge an arm or a leg for a brand new one.

By getting a great radio receiver, you can enjoy great sound. The only regret what you would have is not installing it sooner.

Who is the Pioneer AVH-2440NEX for?

The Pioneer AVH-2440NEX is a stereo for anybody who wants to listen to good quality music. All this can be achieved without breaking the bank.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, it’s placed right at the sweet spot between features and price.

Thanks to Apple Carplay and Android Auto, you can stream your favorite music. This car stereo supports both Spotify and Pandora. What else do you need?

The only missing ingredient is the built in GPS. From my point of view, it’s not a big loss. Who would want to spend loads of cash on the dealership when you can get it for free? If you don’t update your maps regularly, the GPS might take you down a one-ways street. This happened to me, and I was going in the wrong direction.

If you are a big radio fan, get ready for this. When I was testing this unit, I’ve managed to pick up stations that were normally out of reach. So yes, the radio is more sensitive than a stack car stereo. It also comes with built-in HD radio tuner by default.

What can the Pioneer AVH-2440NEX do for you?

The Pioneer AVH-2440NEX DVD receiver can handle all your audio streaming needs. Also, it can help you drive safely by having a backup camera in place. It has only one camera input so no dash cam. Not to mention the hands-free calling thanks to the built-in Bluetooth device.

If you are picky about the radio, it has HD radio. So you can enjoy your favorite stations in CD quality. It is SiriuxMX ready. If you have a subscription, you can listen in. You can enjoy satellite radio wherever you are.

The #1 feature that I love about this car stereo is that you can use both Apple and Android devices. It’s compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Sadly there’s no wireless option. It’s Android’s fault. Only a handful of phones have the wireless function. You can still connect via USB cable.

We shouldn’t forget about connecting this head unit to the stock steering wheel controls. This means you can enjoy hands-free calls.

Do you love to personalize?

This satellite receiver won’t disappoint. You can change almost anything. For example, you can change the startup image. The personalization doesn’t stop there. You can change the background (make sure it’s 500×500). You can rearrange the icons on the main page.

Pioneer AVH-2440NEX shortcomings

Sadly the Pioneer AVH-2440NEX has its list of shortcomings.

One of the biggest hassles is getting the firmware updated. You can’t believe what kinds of run around you need to do. Luckily there are few and far between.

There’s no instant shutdown or mute option. You need to press down a tiny little button on edge and hold it for seconds on end. Is it dangerous? I don’t know you are the judge.

To mute down the stereo, you need to hold that small button for 2s. And for shutdown, you need to keep it pressed for 3s. Why does it have to be that difficult?

Another issue is the slow startup. It can take up to 10s to get started.  If you are driving long stretches, it’s bearable. In case you just hop in and out of the car, it’s annoying.

Finally, the safety feature of not watching videos while driving is a hassle. I mean, I understand why they have put it there. It’s a real pain to bypass it. Yes, it’s possible, but it takes way too much effort.

This is a detailed bug, but I have to share it with you. The Pioneer AVH-2440NEX only accepts background images that are sized 500×500 pixels. Anything other than that, it won’t work. So make sure you resize to accommodate.

How To Get The Most Out Of It Pioneer AVH-2440NEX?

I constantly see negative reviews about Pioneer AVH-2440NEX car stereo. Most issues come from bad installs. If you don’t have the right tools and the know-how, leave it to the pros. Yes, it costs some money to install it, but you keep your sanity.

To bring out the most out of your DVD receiver, you should keep your steering wheel controls. By having the buttons in place, you can make true hands-free calls.

For these, you will need additional equipment like the iDatalink Maestro sold separately. By installing that unit, you will have full control of the steering wheel buttons. Not only that, but you will be getting car diagnostics as well. This device is sold separately from the rest.

The touch screen size is 7″ wide. The image is crisp, and the video plays great.

I almost forgot to mention the EQ. There will be a nice surprise for you. There are seven presets for you to choose from. Also, it has a 13 band graphic equalizer so you can personalize to your liking.

By installing a backup camera, you will be able to park in much tighter spaces. There’s no camera included in the package it’s sold separately. Many are interested in outputs well here they are. It has a video output and 6-channel preamp outputs (4V front, rear subwoofer). Whenever you get stuck with the install do reach out to customer service.

The built in amp delivers 14 watts of power. This is more than enough to breathe new life into stock speakers.
