Is this the best Father’s Day gift?

What do you get for a dad who has it all? This was the dilemma with my dad. After asking him over and over, he didn’t budge. Then the idea came to change his car stereo.

My dad is 18 years old, with a couple of decades of experience. I’ve chosen something easy to use. This is why I’ve created this Pioneer AVH-210EX Review.

In a nutshell, it does what’s advertised. The Pioneer AVH-210EX head unit has a clean and easy to use interface. The built-in Bluetooth connects fast. You can listen to the radio, play DVDs. And of course, you can make hands-free phone calls.

Let’s return to my dad. On Father’s Day, we gave him the Pioneer AVH-210EX car stereo. At first, he didn’t want to. It took him a while to accept the fact that it’s time to upgrade his old stereo. My mom was the most thrilled.

Finally, he can convince my dad to get rid of the box of CDs in the car. It will take some time, but he can transfer them on a USB memory stick.  Best of all, he could enjoy the better sound quality without changing his stock speakers.

The Pioneer AVH-210EX Review head unit is an excellent stereo to have. In a minute, we’ll dive deeper into the details.

First I will give you the gist. Let’s get this Pioneer AVH-210EX Review started.

  • RGB lighting so you can match it with the dash

Who is the Pioneer AVH-210EX for?

This car stereo was created for people who want something simple that works. You can listen to the radio and enjoy the CD/DVD. Plus, you can connect your phone and take hands-free calls. Also, it has two video inputs (one camera input); this means you can mount a backup camera.

The sound quality is crisp and clean. The menu is easy to navigate and fast to react. What I’ve noticed is car radios tend to lag. Other brand’s touch screens aren’t that responsive. Before I forget to mention, the touch screen size is 6.2 inches wide.

What many people love about the Pioneer AVH-210EX is that it’s cheaper than flip-out units. There are no hassles, and the unit works with most phones.

What can the Pioneer AVH-210EX do for you?

The Pioneer AVH-210EX delivers outstanding sound quality. If you want to listen to good music while driving, this head unit is a good choice.

Maybe you’re a radio fan?

FM radio works great. Sadly there’s no HD radio option with this car stereo. But you can listen to satellite radio.

I love the touch screen. Besides being responsive, you can customize the colors. The screen has RGB lighting so you can match your dash.

Now, if you want that perfect sound, you have a 13-band graphic Equalizer. To get the max out of the EQ, you will need to put in the work. I did, and I haven’t regretted it since.

The phone paring is fast. Like I know, there are high-end units that take up to 30 seconds to pair phones. That is slow. You’re paying all that money, and you don’t have an instant connection?

This cheap double DIN head unit beats the pricier ones in that department.

The built-in Bluetooth connection is good. Taking calls is easy. Plus, you can use your steering wheel controls. Hands-free calling is the new norm.

Pioneer AVH-210EX shortcomings

The Pioneer AVH-210EX is a good stereo to have, and it has its weaknesses.

Here’s the biggie. This stereo can’t play MP4 and AVI files. These are the most popular video files, and it doesn’t play them. You need to use a different format if you want to watch movies.

Older Apple products are either glitchy or not working. For example, if you want to connect a classic iPod, then you will get an error. Only newer iPhones and iPods work with this stereo.

Another issue might be the formatting. This stereo only accepts Fat16 or Fat32 formatting. If you want to avoid errors, do reformat your pen drive like this.

It’s odd why brands put their USB ports in the back. This means that you have to route the cable. If you don’t want it dangling from the air, you need to modify the dash. If it were in the front, it would be a simple plug and play.

My final negative for the Pioneer AVH-210EX is that it doesn’t have a remote.  It has a DVD unit, so why there isn’t a remote for it? Sure, you can get a third party remote.

This is the end of the negative part.

How To Get The Most Out Of the Pioneer AVH-210EX?

After you got the package, it’s time to install it. It’s a fairly easy unit to install if you have the right tools. To be on the safe side, I always recommend pro installs. If you get stuck you can always reach out to customer service.

Here’s something you need to know about the safety feature. The video won’t play if you are moving. I know it’s a safety feature, but when you have kids, what do you do? It’s such a pleasure to drive while the kids are watching a cartoon.

The safety feature works like this: if the parking brake is pulled, it plays the video. Luckily there are numerous parking break bypasses. So you can trick the unit and watch videos on the go.

You can utilize the steering wheel controls. This will help you take calls through hands-free control.

How to get the best Bluetooth mic input?

Hot tip: you will get the best input if you place the mic far from the windows.

Do customize the RBG lighting, so it fits the dash. Anybody interested with the outputs here they are: video output, 6-channel preamp outputs (2-volt front, rear, sub)

Pioneer AVH-210EX Review Conclusion

The Pioneer AVH-210EX is a great stereo to have. Don’t forget it’s a double DIN unit, so if you have just a single DIN, it won’t work.

This head unit is unbeatable at this price. It delivers everything that you need. It plays CDs/DVDs, and you can listen to the radio. The built-in Bluetooth connection is the fastest I’ve ever seen. The touch screen response is lag-free.

Eventually, my dad has fallen in love with his new car stereo. He didn’t have to change the stock subwoofers and speakers, so that’s a plus.

This is the reason I’ve chosen Pioneer was that it’s the Toyota of the stereo world.
