Pioneer AVH-2330NEX Review in 2024 – Worth the Buy?

UPDATE: The last time I’ve checked this head unit was out of stock. The best alternative would be the Pioneer MVH-300EX. If you want a stereo that has a fresher look, better sound quality and an awesome display this is the winner you’ve been looking for.

How did I survive with the stock radio this long?

I was quite hesitant about upgrading my stereo. If ain’t broke, why fix it?

Boy, I was wrong. Without changing the speakers or getting amps and subs, I got a brand new car. By installing this head unit, you will be getting a sound quality facelift.

This is the reason why I’ve created the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX review.

Here’s a quick preview on what you are getting with this head unit. First of all, it’s a great looking deck. It doesn’t scream aftermarket, and it sits flush in the dash. You can choose from multiple music sources from standard to HD radio. It comes with USB input and a built-in Bluetooth connection. You can listen to the CD/DVD player, and it’s SiriusXM ready.

It supports both iPhone and Android phones so you can use Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It has a camera input; thus, you can mount a backup camera. Thanks to the built-in Bluetooth connection, you can enjoy hands-free calling.

Did you mention that the stock system had no chance with this stereo?

The sound quality is like heaven and earth.

Who is the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX for?

This Pioneer head unit is for those who want an almost limitless music streaming options. Plus, for those who have multiple phones in the car.

May consumers bought it for upgrading their sound system. And guess what?

They didn’t touch the speakers or invested in amps and subs. They just installed the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX digital receiver.

What can the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX do for you?

The first thing I want to mention about the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX car stereo is the amazing sound quality. This head unit makes those stock speakers sing.

If you are driving any distance with the car, you will have more than enough music sources. As you have seen in the preview, this deck comes with standard and built-in HD radio. Not to mention satellite radio as well. It’s SiriusXM ready so that you can enjoy your favorite shows on the road.

It’s compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. You can do audio streaming with the help of Spotify, Pandora. Plus, it has a USB port so you can add music from the pen drive.

The built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and take hands-free calls if you want Siri Eyes Free can read and send messages without you touching your phone.

The Bluetooth connection is strong, and the sound quality is crisp. You can connect two phones at the same time via a built-in Bluetooth connection.

The head unit comes with a touchscreen display. The screen size is 7”. The user experience isn’t intuitive but more on that in the next chapter.

Last but not least, I want to mention that you can mount a backup camera so you can make parking faster and easier.

Pioneer AVH-2330NEX shortcomings

At the moment the perfect car stereo hasn’t been invented yet. The Pioneer AVH-2330NEX has some flaws. Let’s see if you still interested in it after you read this chapter.

The biggest problem with this head unit is the screen. Now don’t get me wrong it works perfectly, but it collects fingerprints like no tomorrow. Plus, it’s hard to clean. A screen protector is an absolute must.

If you plan to install it, DIY style best of luck to you, the install guide is just useless. You’re better off with a pro install. On the other hand, if you’re determined to DIY go on YouTube and find some tutorials to help you out.

Pioneer, you guys, messed this stereo up. The menu is complicated, and it’s not intuitive. I don’t have time for a learning curve to use it. I am more fond of plug and play approach.

Here’s the good news you can customize the background image. Here’s the bad news you can only upload one image at a time. I wonder how hard it is to program in two or more images?

With the AVH-2330NEX head unit, you are not getting a volume knob. Sadly these are on the way out. So we need to get used to the fact that everything will be digital. Since there’s no knob, if you want to mute or turn off something, it takes like 2-3 operations.

Not to mention you are taking your eyes off the road. This isn’t safe, and no amount of warning messages will make it so.

To my surprise, the screen resolution isn’t that good. I mean, it’s not bad, but I expect something along the lines of an iPhone.  It’s time for stereo makers to wake up and modernize.

How To Get The Most Out Of Pioneer AVH-2330NEX?

After getting the package, you need to get it installed. I’m a huge advocate for pro installs. For me, it’s a huge time and money saver.

If you want to keep your steering wheel controls, it’s a good idea to invest in the Metra Axxess kit. This will allow you to keep your steering wheel buttons and enjoy hands-free calling. The Metra device is not included in the package, and it’s sold separately.

To get the best out of the sound system, you will have to play around with the 13-band graphic equalizer. If you don’t want to waste hours you can choose from the presets.

Since it comes with a camera input, put it to good use. Mount a backup camera so you will be able to park into tighter spaces in record time.

Hot tip: to get the best view for the backup camera, arranges it for 149 degrees.

Last but not least, don’t forget, you can customize the background. And you can upload only one image at a time.
