There are two important factors when you are giving a car for the kids to drive. One would provide them with safety. Second would be entertainment for longer roads.

This is why I’ve created the JVC KW-R930BTS review. It’s a great starter double din car stereo for any driver. It doesn’t cost a lot, and it delivers everything that’s needed.

My goal with this review is to give you every bit of info you need to buy or choose a different unit. By the end of this post, you will know for sure if this is a good fit for you.

Before we go any further, let me give you the quick preview. There’s no touch screen display, so drivers are not distracted. It has built-in Bluetooth so you can enjoy hands-free control.

The unit might seem a bit old-school, and I don’t complain. The fewer distractions, the safer they can drive. This JVC head unit comes with a CD slot for your favorite songs. Plus, it has a front USB for easy access. There’s also a rear USB as well.

The JVC KW-R930BTS head unit is for those who want modern car capabilities without distractions. As you have seen from the pictures, there’s no distracting display for you to look at.

This unit was designed to keep you safe and entertain you.

This car stereo has a built-in Bluetooth for phone connection. There are no apps or any shiny stuff anywhere. Actually, this unit is the minimalist dream stereo.

It also has an old-school vibe since the info display looks like an LED.

How can the JVC KW-R930BTS head unit entertain you?

It comes with the basics like a CD player, USB (front, rear USB), and radio. If you enjoy high-quality music, then you can rest assured that it reads FLAC files. These FLAC files are limited to 96kHz.

If you still have CD’s, it’s time to transfer them to pen drivers because they are getting phased out.

USB ports are here to stay. So any music in MP3 WMA will be available for a long time to come.

With the CD player, I want to mention that it has a good AM/FM tuner. Additionally, this car stereo comes with SiriusXM ready. Now you can listen to your favorite shows wherever you are.

The stock speakers perform better. Matter of fact there’s no comparison between my old stock stereo and this JVC one.

Did you know that you can connect multiple devices?

Yes, that’s true. This head unit supports up to 5 phones.

The last feature I want to tell you about is the speaker’s distance. You can set it, and you will feel the music hitting you differently.

The JVC head unit comes with built-in Bluetooth. This means that you can enjoy hands-free calling. In today’s world, we are always on the phone. By letting tech handling this part, we can focus on the road.

With certain iPhones you can enjoy Siri Eyes Free. It’s a great service to have. This keeps you extra safe.

Besides hands-free calls, you can do audio streaming from any connected phone.

JVC KW- R930BTS shortcomings

As you have seen, the JVC KW-R930BTS looks like a great starter head unit. No matter how good it is, there are flaws. I would be doing a disservice to you if I would keep quiet about it. So let’s peek behind the curtain and see what’s wrong with it.

This is the most complicated stereo I had ever had the pleasure to work with. For me to change something basics, I need to fetch the manual. I’ve tried to adjust the displayed time. I had to find it in the manual. There’s nothing intuitive about this head unit.

Speaking of the manual, if you are planning to do a DIY install get ready, the manual is vague. You are better served by YouTube videos.

The screen is not bright enough. If you catch the sun at the right angle, you won’t be able to see anything. There’s no fix to this problem.

Oddly, the max sound volume goes to 35. My old stock stereo went to 50.

My last issue with this head unit is that it comes with an external mic. There’s no classy way to mount it. You have a sticky take, and you put the mic as close to the driver as possible.

As you can see, the JVC has some weaknesses. Are they a deal-breaker for you?

How To Get The Most Out Of JVC KW- R930BTS?

The first step is to get it installed. Now I’m not good with wiring and electronics, so I’m leaving it to the pros. You can save so much time doing so. Plus, I don’t burn neurons on complicated things that other people can do.

Would you like to keep your steering wheel sound controls? Then you will need an additional adapter installed. With this additional device, you can adjust sound volumes without lifting your hand off the steering wheel controls.

You can personalize your JVC KW-R930BTS head unit. If you like something fancy, you can assign two different colors for the stereo.

If the stock sound options are not enough, then you can tap the power of your smartphone. Through Apple and Android devices, you can do audio streaming from Spotify, Pandora, and IHeartRadio.

Many people are interested in the outputs. Well, here it outputs 6-channel preamp outputs (2.5V front read sub).

Last but not least, don’t forget about the Equalizer. It has 13 bands that you can adjust to. If the 13-band graphic equalizer is too much, there are 11 presets to choose from. For the ultimate sound quality use the bass boost.

The best way to characterize this JVC double DIN unit is to be saying it looks like a modern factory system.
