You have to seriously invest weeks on end to find a good one. This is why I’ve decided to shorten your research and show you only the very best ones.
I’m ranking these 5 channel amplifiers on size, sound clarity, ease of installation, lifespan and, of course, price-to-power ratio.
Now pick any of these amplifiers, and you have a winner by your side. No matter which one you go with, it will deliver that power to make your subwoofer and speakers shine.
Let me see those amps already!
In a Hurry? Here Are the Top 3 Best 5 Channel Amps
#1 Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000X5 – The Best 5 Channel Amplifier
This amplifier took my breath away. All the years in-car audio, I have rarely seen a gem like this. It has everything you need to enjoy some high-quality music.
Just imagine you have to turn down the volume because it’s too much to handle. Or it’s so strong that you can feel it inside while others at the stoplight are rolling their eyes. The bass is nice and clean, plus it punches hard as a real champ.
The speakers are stressed to the max and perform top of their game. What more can you ask from an amplifier like this?
Power Specs:
- 75 Watts RMS Power Rating x 4 + 150 Watts RMS Rating x 1 at 4-Ohm
- 125 Watts RMS Power Rating x 4 + 300 Watts RMS Rating x 1 at 2-Ohm
- 500 Watts RMS Power Rating at 1-Ohm
It’s justifiably expensive because they have only used quality materials. This is why it has lasted through 2 years of scorching South Carolina heat and still delivers as if it were day 1.
The smile on people’s faces when they drive away with their new system is priceless. Odd thing that they keep on smiling even after months have passed since the installation.
This is why it’s top of my list:
- The Ultimate Single Amp Solution: Why would you get two amps when this one can do the job flawlessly? Less space, fewer problems, and less headaches than having two
- Built to Last: This amp has gone to hell and back, surviving 2 years in the South Carolina heat, and it’s still delivering great juice
- Underrated Amplifier: This is what I love about Rockford Fosgate they always give you more power than they advertise
A few drawbacks to consider:
Come on, Rockford, you could’ve at least kicked in the bass control knob. Since it’s not included, you have to buy it separately.
A few people complained that this amplifier runs from warm to hot. Well, this is expected because it’s a Class A/B combined with a Class D amp. Class A/B is known to turn up the heat.
Even though this amplifier has a few minor flaws, it’s all worth it because it gives you some amazing power that’s transformed into a beautiful melody. It can power most systems without any hiccups.
Being the best means that many people are buying it and thus there are shortages. This means you have to move because the stocks are limited, and if you stay on the fence for long, they will be sold out. Plus, new shipments only come weeks later. Grab one while you can.
If you want something cheaper, then check out #2 on my list.
- Space saver since it replaces two amps
- Happy driver since the speakers are maxed, and the sub is delivering that incredible bass
- Quality build since it can take the heat no problem
- The bass knob is not included
- The crossover settings are not beginner-friendly
#2 Polk Audio PA D5000.5 – Best 5 Channel Class D Amplifier
Holy Cow, what will this little thing do? This was my first impression when I’d released this tiny monster. Well, I was shocked after I did the wiring and tuned it in. It has blown me away.
Maybe you don’t have much space in the car, or you don’t want to sacrifice your trunk space for an amplifier. No biggie because it’s a Class D amp, and you have a ton of options where to mount it.
Let me paint you a picture of how it’s like to ride with a bad boy like this in your ride. There’s no headlight flickering when it delivers a decent thump. The sound quality is amazing, and there’s no distracting his, static only pure melody.
Power Specs:
- 70 watts RMS x 4 + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
- 100 watts RMS x 4 + 400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
- 200 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode at 4 ohms + 500 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm
Best of all, it comes at an unbeatable price. If you didn’t know, Polk makes the highest quality at a super price. It even beats much more expensive brands with ease.
To sweeten the deal, since it’s a 5 channel amp, you don’t have to use two amps which saves you space and money.
Here’s why it’s a must-buy:
- Clean and Hits Hard: There’s no hissing or static, only clean melody, plus the sub kicks so hard I can barely take it; flat out rocks
- Great Bang for the Buck: I can’t believe how much power they are selling at this price; Polk might’ve mixed up the pricing because it’s almost too good to be true
- Works Great with Top-down Cars: I know the pain that when you drop the top-down, all the music fades in the background. Thanks to this Polk amplifier, you can still enjoy your favorite songs even if the wind is blowing your hair
Here are a few drawbacks:
They went a bit shy with power delivery for the subwoofer. I would’ve preferred that the sub channel get more juice.
My biggest gripe with this amplifier is that the bass knob is highly inaccurate. They should’ve done a better job with it.
All in all, this Polk amplifier is a masterpiece of engineering. It’s loud, and it’s strong while being easy on your wallet.
It’s popular, has superior performance, and it’s at a great price. No wonder it’s flying off the shelves. You’re in luck. I’ve seen a few left in stock since the last time I’ve checked. So if you hurry, you can still get one before they run out.
- The perfect option for amazing sounding highs and mids
- A killer amp that replaces two inferior ones with ease
- Best way to rock the hell out of a truck
- More power for the sub would’ve been nice
- The bass knob is not that accurate
#3 BOSS Audio Systems PV3700 – Best Affordable 5 Channel Amp
If you’re on the budget and still need some decent power for subwoofers and speakers, then this Boss Amplifier will be the best fit.
It’s a monster of a sub because it delivers so much power. It will get loud. I’m not joking. This baby will make you run towards the volume knob because most people can’t take it. As a matter of fact, this sub it’s just perfect for teenagers who want something loud.
Here’s some good news this class A/B amp works with your stock system, so you don’t have to do any major overhaul.
Power Specs:
- 550 Watts Max Power ratings (peak power output) x 4 @2-Ohms
- 275 Watts Max Power ratings x 4 @4-Ohms
- 1100 Watts Max Power output (peak power output) x 2 Bridged @4 Ohms
Sadly this amp won’t be sufficient for audiophiles. If you don’t have that kind of perfectionism in you, then imagine this the glass and mirrors are dancing to the music. Best of all, there are no distortions even on higher levels.
Here’s why it’s a must-buy:
- It’s a Monster: It’s a super-powerful amplifier that can become stupid loud and power two 12″ or even two 15″ subs
- Perfect for Any Music: Boss did a great job with this amp because it’s well balanced so you can enjoy your favorite songs in pristine quality
- For People With Limited Resources: You’re getting all the power that you will ever need at a super affordable price
Here are a few drawbacks:
It’s known for Boss to overrate their amplifiers. Sadly it’s the case with this one as well. The very best I got was 960 Watt RMS.
For some, the LED light is way too powerful for the dark. If that’s the case, then put some dark insulation tape on it, and it’s done.
All in all, this amplifier is a great one to have. Not only does it deliver great power, but it’s not that expensive either. What about the looks? It’s a shame if you have to put it under the car seat, you will lose some bragging rights.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and here’s the thing. The last time I’ve checked, there were only a few left in stock. Now you might get lucky and find one still available it’s simple to buy it before someone else does.
- For teens who like stupid loud systems
- A monster system that’s worth every penny
- The perfect solutions for those who have limited resources
- It’s an overrated amp
- The bright LED light might bother a few

Here are a few drawbacks:
That forsaken chip shortage… because of that it’s extremely hard to get one in stock. Consider yourself lucky if you find one.
I can’t recognize Rockford Fosgate they dropped the ball with the documentation because that’s weak.
All in all this Rockford Fosgate amplifier delivers on all fronts. Also it’s a great perk to get more power than advertised. Perfect for a great speaker system and it powers the sub like no one else.
It’s quite a popular amplifier which means that people are buying it like hot cakes when it’s in stock. The chip shortage isn’t helping the situation either. If you’re lucky then grab it while you can because it will be out of stock in a matter of hours.
- It brings the system alive
- Plenty of control to get the best sound possible
- Premium quality at an affordable price
- Thanks to the chip shortage it’s hard to get it
- The documentation is very weak

Here are a few drawbacks:
There’s no easy way to say it, this Rockville amplifier is overrated. There’s no way to get that kind of power that they are advertising.
A few people mentioned that there are overheating issues. If this is the case then you need to get a few fans to keep this puppy cool.
All in all this Rockville amplifier is the best budget 5 channel amplifier on the market. Yes it has a few flaws yet these are not deal-breakers. Did I mention it’s super affordable?
Since the cost and power ratio is in your favor then we shouldn’t wonder why people are buying it like no tomorrow. The thing is that most stores can hardly keep it in stock. So you need to move if you want this badly. Buy it before they are all gone.

Buyer’s Guide for 5 Channel Amplifiers
I’ve thought that it would be very helpful if I put together a simple to-use buyer’s guide for 5 channel amplifiers. You can rest assured that picking any amplifier from the list above will help you avoid lemons however it doesn’t mean that it’s the right fit for your system.
So this is why I’m writing this guide so you get exactly what you need. You probably know how many different 5 channel amps are out there. To this you have to add a few levels of complexity like size available, power needs and impedance just to name a few.
No worries I will explain everything so you will know exactly which the right fit is. Let’s get to it.
5 channel amps vs 4 channel amps – What’s the difference?
There’s a minor yet significant difference between 4 channel and 5 channel amplifiers. As the name suggests there’s one extra channel with the 5 channel amp.
This extra channel is to power the subwoofer. In simplest forms this extra channel delivers a lot more power than the rest of the 4 simply because the subs need a lot more power.
Now 4 channel amplifiers allow subwoofer powering and there are a bunch of wiring options to get the most out of it however sometimes it’s not enough. This is why 5 channel amps come into play.
In most cases these amps have a hybrid class and I will tell you more about it in a bit.
Typically the 4 channel amp is used to power 2-6 speakers and you get a dedicated mono amp for the subwoofer. This means that you need two amps so more money more wiring and of course more space is required. If you go with a 5 channel amplifier than you can power those 2-6 speakers and you still have another channel set for the subwoofer.
This means that you’re saving money and space at the same time. Not to mention how simple the wiring becomes.
5 Channel Amp Classes
There are two mainstream amp classes. There’s the Class A/B and the Class D one. Also there are hybrid and variations as well. The most popular design is combining Class A/B with Class D.
The 4 channels that are intended for the speakers are Class A/B and the leftover channel which is intended for the subwoofer is Class D.
The difference between the two comes from their architecture. The main plus of the Class A/B is that gives a crystal clear sound while the Class D is super-efficient.
Now here’s the bad part first up is the Class A/B. It consumes a lot of power, it’s munching even when there’s no input signal. Since it uses a lot of power it means that it produces a lot of heat. The most efficient Class A/B amplifiers are rated at 65% and below the rest is wasted heat.
This means that the design has to compensate with metal housing and a heat sink which could drive prices higher. Also the Class A/B amplifier is a lot bigger than its Class D cousin.
Let me share with you what’s the drawback of Class D amplifiers. They don’t have that clear of a sound and on higher levels they distort. Ever since its inception this tech has been evolving at a rapid pace so they have corrected the initial errors.
Usually you can hear a hissing sound when the volume is high. On another note the Class D amplifier is 95% efficient so it doesn’t produce much-wasted heat. This means that pretty much you can install it as you please and I will tell you more about later on.
Plus it has a small size so that’s a big bonus as well.
What to Consider While Buying a Best 5-Channel Car Amplifier?
First of all picking an amplifier from the list above ensures you that you avoid lemons. Secondly you have to match your system. This part of the buyer’s guide will help you do just that.
There are two numbers that you have to check before you buy any 5 channel amp. This would be the power requirements and impedance.
Impedance is the resistance or Ohm value of each speaker and subwoofer. This is what you need to know about impedance that the higher the number the harder the amp has to work and it doesn’t produce that much power.
It’s crucial to get this right. Now most amplifiers allow different setups and bridging options so you can nail that part. Next up is power.
RMS Power
There are two power ratings typically displayed on the amp description there’s the maximum power output and the RMS power output. Ignore the maximum one because those are typically inflated and they are not real.
Always look for the RMS power. And you have to match it 70-100% to your speakers or subs.
The good news is that if you’re overpowering that’s not a biggie yet. If the system is underpowered that’s a no-go. I mean if you have more power then you need you can always upgrade at a later date. However underpowering means the death of the system.
Sound Quality
Sound quality comes down to your system and you matching amp. The amplifiers listed above deliver excellent sound quality without distortions.
If you have the space and want that absolutely crystal clear sound quality then you have to go with a Class A/B amp. This type of amplifier focuses on the best quality.
However if you’re short on cash or space then the best option would be a Class D amplifier.
Does Size Matter?
Yes amplifier size matters a lot and not like most people would think. A bigger amp doesn’t necessarily mean a louder or clearer sound. It might just mean old technology.
The main reason why I’m a big fan of Class D amplifiers is because they offer multiple installation options. These amps are so small that they literally fit anywhere. You name I’ve probably installed it there. I’ve even managed to squeeze a few in the glove box.
Since these amplifiers are so small they are typically mounted under the seat thus giving you ample space in the trunk.
I’ve shared everything there’s about 5 channel amplifiers. Now it’s your turn put it to good use.

The 5 channel amp is typically the best solution to handle the entire sound system (audio system, sound system) for the best audio quality.
