Skar Audio ZVX-15v2 D2 15" sub - Best 15-Inch Subwoofer in 2023

We have a WINNER!

Watch out for this beast because it will eat you alive. This Skar sub is rated at 1,500 Watts RMS and that’s some serious power rating.

As a full disclaimer, I was scared to turn the amp bass knob above 50% because it might permanently damage my ears.

Hopefully everything is bolted down or this monster will share your vehicle apart.

I got to hand it to Skar they know exactly how to create products. There’s no design flaw and it’s built to last. After properly breaking it in you will be able to enjoy some crisp, loud bass and it’s accurate it hits the beat perfectly.

This is why this car seat got top of my list:

  • King Kong in the Trunk: I’m not joking this sub will rip your trunk apart if you leave it unattended it’s that powerful
  • Free Body Massage: Oh boy this sub will hit hard and you can cancel your appointment with the masseuse because you will get a full-body one from this sub
  • How Loud You Say? Typically people will know that I’m coming when I’m 5 minutes away this sub is a regular loud beast.

A few drawbacks I’ve found:

Apparently this sub comes with a burn-off smell. It wasn’t that significant to me I hardly even noticed it. Typically after the break-in period it will be gone.

This is a hungry beast and it costs a lot of have it fed. This means that you need to do a serious upgrade for your electrical system starting with the wires, alternator, battery and even a capacitor or two.

This Skar audio woofer checks all the boxes and delivers amazing SQ while being affordable and this is why it has won the title.

Since the secret is out, people are buying these subs like crazy and the stocks are near empty. Now if you want to enjoy some amazing bass then you need to move right now or risk waiting for the next shipment.

If you want something cheaper, then check out #2 on my list.

Pros
  • The bass is so heavy that it could wreck your car, beware
  • When it’s blasting at the highest you will be getting a free massage with the right song
  • It’s very loud people will here you from a distance
Cons
  • There’s an initial burn-off smell

There were complaints that these subs get blown over and over again. Well this can be caused if this monster is powered with a cheap, inferior amp. If you have a good one then it won’t be an issue.

This sub is moving in so your trunk will be occupied by this huge woofer. If trunk space is important, you need to choose a different sub.

It’s quite a popular subwoofer so no wonder that the stocks are low. You will have to move fast and order it if you don’t want to be left out.

Pros
  • For attention seekers because this sub will turn some heads wherever you go
  • Hits the lows perfectly and works with every type of music genre

#3 Rockford Fosgate P3D4-15 Punch – The Hardest Hitting 15-Inch Subwoofer

Hardest Hitting 15-Inch SubwooferI was surprised twice by this sub. First of all it’s rated at 600W RMS so how can this be the biggest banger from all others? Wait until you set it up and let it loose. Then you will understand.

My second surprise was when I got used to it and I was frequently checking the back to see if it was truly just one shaking my bones.

You can’t get more bang for your buck than this Rockford Fosgate sub. Now besides hitting hard, it’s top on accuracy. The beats are hit exactly at the right time and there’s no distortion.

If you want to get into the center of attention then this sub will do that for you because anywhere you will be going it will turn heads.

I’m quite impressed with this Rockford and when it’s blasting at full strength you can feel the air moving around your face.

This is why it’s a must-buy:

  • Hardest Hitting 15 Inch Sub: This woofer hits so hard as if someone would be bashing your tailgate with a baseball bat
  • Gas Station Shaker: Oh boy people working at the gas station don’t like it when I pull up because everything is shaking that’s not nailed or bolted down
  • Great Frequency Range: This monster dominates the 21-200 Hz range and it really shines in the lows, not just shines but thrives

Here are a few drawbacks to consider:

This is a big subwoofer, so depending on your vehicle size you won’t be left with room to spare for mundane stuff like luggage, groceries and so on.

I’m pretty sure that you will need to upgrade your stock electrical system or you won’t be able to bring the absolute best out of it.

If you want the hardest-hitting subwoofer that’s 15″ then you have just found the winner. It’s retarded how hard this thing can hit. Plus the secret is out and now everybody is buying it up. So you have to move fast if you want one.

Pros
  • It’s the hardest hitting 15” subwoofer on the market nothing comes close to it
  • It just shakes everything and everybody around you from people to houses and the gas station
  • The lows are perfect however it dominates a wide range of frequencies
Cons
  • You will lose all your trunk space it’s so big
  • The electrical system will needs serious upgrade

#4 Sundown Audio X-15 v3 D2 Pro – Most Powerful 15-Inch Subwoofer

Most Powerful 15-Inch SubwooferWhat on earth can you do with a beast like this?

It’s rated at 2,000 Watts RMS so you are probably waking up the entire town when you roll in.

After you have sorted out the electrical system and you need to upgrade otherwise you won’t be able to bring out the maximum potential. And yes no matter what people say there’s a break-in period. After that you are probably hanging on to dear life.

The pictures and videos don’t do justice for this sub, and it’s hard to get a decent photo to show off this impressive woofer.

The build quality is top-notch as if it were a house. With this Sundown Audio you will have your fill with the lows because it crushes them.

This is why it’s a must-buy:

  • It’s Scary: There’s no better way to describe this sub than it’s just scary because it will become hard to breathe while it’s pounding.
  • Perfect for the Lows: If you love the lower frequencies, then this woofer will deliver them on a silver platter better yet it digs into them
  • Satisfaction Guaranteed: Once you supply the unlimited power that this beast needs the bass will be out of this world

Here are a few drawbacks to consider:

This beast is heavy!!! I know some people who managed to throw their back out while trying to move it, it’s not a joke.

To make this monster purr you will need a lot of power and most likely you will have to upgrade the car’s electrical system or it won’t work.

All in all not many people will manage to tame this monster. If you can then kudos to you. It’s hard to think that this expensive woofer suffers from supply shortages.

The thing is that Sundown Audio isn’t making too many of these subs so the ones that are in stock are flying off the shelves. So you have to move quickly to secure one.

Pros
  • It will suck the air out of the car and it will make it hard to breathe
  • Fans of the lows will love this subwoofer so much
  • With the right amount of power this beast will be unleashed
Cons
  • It’s a two men job it’s that heavy

My friends always told me that they could hear me way earlier than they could see me. So the bass is out of this world.

This woofer was designed for daily punishment because it can take a beating. Plus it’s Kevlar coated so you know it will be tough.

Make sure you have some glue in the car because you will need it for the rearview window. You see the bass is so powerful that it might knock the mirror down over and over again.

Brace yourself; this budget banger is rated at 1,200 Watts RMS which means you will need a more than decent amplifier to deliver the right amount of power.

The sound quality is great and you will feel like you are in the pro league without blowing next month’s rent.

This is why it’s a must-buy:

  • The King of Hair Tricks: Hair tricks became a lot easier thanks to this woofer you will be able to pull them off without breaking a sweat

  • Ready for Battle: This woofer will serve you well for many years to come because it’s made out of great materials plus its Kevlar coated

Here are a few drawbacks to consider:

Brace yourself this is a hungry beast, so you will have to invest in serious power to tame it which will come at a significant price tag.

Don’t get cocky because two of these will easily blow out the back window and it will cost to fix it.

This woofer is simply amazing. Besides all the bass and loudness it’s a budget banger. Best of all it’s under $200.

So no wonder why people are buying it up like hotcakes. So if you want to enjoy some extra powerful bass then you need to step on it or risk waiting weeks if not longer.

  • Hair tricks to pull off became a lot easier and fun to do
  • Even your eyeballs will get rattled by this beast

#6 Power Acoustik BAMF-154 15″ Dual Sub

[REVEALED] The 7 Best 15 inch Subwoofers in 2024 6It can do what? Somebody is obviously lying here. How can a sub under $200 handle 1,900 Watts RMS?

To my surprise it’s the real deal. If you ever need a budget banger this Power Acousik sub will do the job perfectly. Before I give voice to all the complainers, you need to do a few things to bring this monster to life.

First of all you need a proper box, no stock BS because that won’t bang loud enough. Secondly, you need to tune it properly, and once that’s done, brace yourself because the bass will hit you hard.

It will shake the entire truck and everything around it. It’s so worth it. It’s very powerful and you will be able to enjoy some nice clean bass.

This is why it’s a must-buy:

  • You Get What You Pay For: Wrong! This is the exception from the rule. It’s insane the amount of power you’re getting for such a low price.
  • BAD MOFO Warning! After getting the proper box and tuning it get ready for the door panels and even the dash to move
  • Very DEEP BASS: When this thing hits oh boy you will be waking up the block and even the neighborhood

Here are a few drawbacks to consider:

They might’ve overstated the RMS levels because it started to make a burned smell when I was nearing the RMS value yet I wasn’t that close.

A few people complained that their sub had a premature death, well you need to make sure that everything is wired properly and that you feed the right power to it.

All in all this subwoofer was a pleasant surprise for me. Not only has it proven the old saying “you get what you paid for” wrong but it has seriously put a dent in my relationship with the neighbors. It’s a beast.

If you want an affordable banger subwoofer then this is the one. Sadly the secret is out and now everybody wants one of these. You need to move fast because there were only a few left the last time I checked.

Pros
  • This sub moves everything in your car it might even rearrange your door panels
  • The bass is strong and deep just like the doctor ordered it
  • It’s a hidden gem you will be getting a ton of value for not a lot of money
Cons
  • It’s questionable if the RMS can be reached or it’s overrated
  • With the wrong amp you might burn this sub

#7 American Bass XFL1544 15″ Dual 4 Ohm Competition Car Stereo Sub

[REVEALED] The 7 Best 15 inch Subwoofers in 2024 7Holy Cow! American Bass sure knows how to create a great subwoofer. I’ve tested it and it can deliver the lows better than Cerwin Vega.

This 15 inch sub is rated at 1,500W RMS so you will need some serious power to bring out the best of it. Also I can’t stress this enough you need the right box or it won’t bag. Forget about those one-size-fits-all because they are not that good.

Besides the right box you will need a very good amp to deliver that high RMS that it craves.

I like to call this subwoofer the juggernaut because it shakes the neighbor’s houses. It’s not a brute because it’s a musical monster. I love that it accurately hits the lows.

It’s heavy and well-built plus they have used quality materials so it will last a lifetime.

This is why it’s a must-buy:

  • It’s a Musical Monster: In my tests it has beaten Cerwin Vega in the low-frequency range, it’s sad and funny at the same time because they are priced in different categories
  • Borderline Painful: This sub hit’s so hard jeez people will be able to hear you coming a half a mile away
  • Lifetime Sub: The build quality is simple excellent and only quality parts are used so it will last you for a very long time

Here are a few drawbacks to consider:

The subwoofer isn’t that expensive but upgrading your electrical system will cost you a pretty penny if you want to let this beast loose.

The thing is that this subwoofer has low sensitivity so you will definitely need to upgrade your electrical system.

All in all this American Bass Subwoofer is a beast. It delivers the lows and hits very hard, plus people will hear you arriving from a distance.

It’s affordably priced and worth every penny so no wonder people are buying them like no tomorrow. You will have to move fast if you want it because stocks are running low.

Pros
  • Perfect budget banger and dominates the frequencies well
  • The bass is so powerful almost as if it causes physical pain
  • High quality amazing finish and built to last woofer
Cons

What should I look for if I want the best of the best?

If you’re serious about getting thumping bass in your car audio system, a 15 inch subwoofer is the way to go. Look for dual voice coil models with peak power handling of at least 2000 watts and an RMS rating of 1000 watts. Higher-end models can come with frequency responses up to 30Hz-250 Hz, so make sure you get one that meets your needs. Still, keep in mind that the higher the frequency response, the more expensive it will be. You’ll also need an external amplifier to handle the extra power and maybe even a separate enclosure for installation. But if you’re after some quality sounds, nothing else beats a 15 inch subwoofer.

What factors should I consider if I want a new 15 inch sub?

If you’re looking for a 15-inch subwoofer, there are several factors to consider. Power output, size, price, and type of surround technique are all essential. Be sure to choose one with an appropriate power rating that can handle the maximum power of your amplifier without distortion. Aluminum voice coils are more effective in dissipating heat and last longer. Additionally, maximize sound quality by selecting a subwoofer that has both peak and RMS ratings. Single voice coil or dual voice coil models offer more flexibility when it comes to placement and installation. Lastly, decide whether you need a larger or smaller model depending on your space constraints—you may even want to look into custom subwoofer boxes if available.

What should I know about the best 15 inch subwoofers?

Are you searching for the optimal 15 inch subwoofer for your audio system? When considering all of the features, you’ll want to take into account audio quality, power capability, and a low frequency response. It’s paramount that your subwoofer is able to reproduce lower frequencies with precise clarity and strength. Make sure it possesses enough juice that powers it properly in order to fit snugly within the sealed enclosure of your car. With numerous selections at hand, finding the right 15 inch subwoofer might be daunting. But, by keeping these factors in mind you can find one that fits your needs perfectly and boosts your vehicle’s sound system to new heights.

When budget is a concern, few can beat out the sonic quality generated by high-end 15 inch subwoofers. These are especially good for rendering low frequency sounds accurately with abundant power, as their RMS rating stands among the highest in today’s market. Plus, polypro subs offer durability against long term wear and tear, so investing in one makes sure you enjoy topnotch sound year after year. This explains why they remain a popular choice amongst audiophiles! Look for models with continuous power capabilities – this will enable them to manage bass undistorted – combined with an excellent sound output; paper cone reinforcement helps keep distortion away while also maintaining vibrancy; plus aluminum voice coils keep sound clear whilst extending its life span too!

What is RMS power?

RMS power, or Root Mean Square (RMS) is a type of measurement used to measure the average power in an electrical signal. It measures the amount of energy carried by a signal over a set period of time and is an important factor when selecting subwoofers, amplifiers and other car audio components.

What is sound distortion?

Sound distortion occurs when changes are made to the sound that cause it to be altered from its original form. This often happens in car audio systems due to too much power being applied – either through using high-powered car audio components or through playing music at too loud of a volume.

How can I make my car’s audio system sound louder?

To make your car’s audio system sound louder, you can consider replacing any low-power components with more powerful ones, installing additional speakers and amps into your vehicle for added amplification, or simply playing music at higher volumes. Additionally, adding subwoofers with strong bass capabilities can also enhance overall sound quality and provide more punch for sound output.

What is Planet Audio?

Planet Audio is a popular brand offering an extensive selection of products for mobile electronics such as amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers and more. They provide quality customer service support as well as user-friendly installation kits to help make upgrading your car’s audio system easier than ever before.

What type of materials are used in subwoofer cones?

Subwoofer cones come in many different shapes and sizes but typically consist of reinforced paper cone material which provides strength without compromising on weight or bass response. Additionally some premium models also feature carbon fiber designs along with proprietary materials such as polypropylene or anodized aluminum cones which improve resilience while increasing performance levels as well.

What is high roll foam?

High-roll foam is a type of synthetic material, often made from polyurethane or rubber. It’s typically used as a speaker surround, which helps to absorb and dampen sound vibrations for more accurate playback. This type of foam is known for its durability, longevity and ability to handle higher power levels than typical foam surrounds.

What is peak power output and how does it affect car subwoofers?

Peak power output is the maximum amount of energy that an amplifier can produce in sudden bursts. This affects car subwoofers because it will determine both the loudness and clarity of bass notes being reproduced. Higher peak outputs usually give your system more punch when playing deep bass notes and make the sound more vibrant overall.

What are the benefits of using a custom subwoofer box?

A custom subwoofer box has several advantages; firstly, it allows you to tailor the enclosure’s size to fit exactly what you need, giving you flexibility on placement within your vehicle. Additionally, choosing materials like high-roll foam surrounds can help reinforce low frequencies for enhanced audio quality and reduce vibration from strong drivers generating high volumes of bass.

What makes a component subwoofer different from passive/powered subwoofers?

Component subwoofers are designed to be powerful yet require separate amplifiers in order to function properly. By contrast, powered or passive subwoofers have their own built-in amplifiers that can easily be hooked up with minimal wiring needed so they’re easier to setup quickly without any extra cost factors involved. However component subwoofers provide better sound quality as they require more precise tuning options available via an external amp allowing greater control over frequency response curves or enabling access to specific features like adjustable crossover points between individual drivers etc.

What is RMS Power Rating and How Does It Relate To Car Subwoofers?

RMS stands for Root Mean Square which measures sustained power handling capabilities over time instead of just a single burst like peak power ratings do. So car stereo installers use this rating when figuring out how much wattage your components should receive which means if your RMS rating on the speakers is too low compared to other components then distortion might occur due to under powering certain frequencies resulting in muddy sounding tunes at higher volumes .

How do dual voice coils increase low frequency sound production?

Dual voice coils allow for direct wiring configurations where multiple channels can be wired together without having an impact on each other’s performance; this means multiple subs connected in parallel will perform with combined efficiency increasing total output at lower frequencies while preserving fidelity across all ranges due to increased surface area received by each coil independently allowing better air exchange when transferring bass waves into sound waves
